About the PonnoTarot Collection
In early 2020, right as the world shut down, I began work on a series of 78 paintings that I (one day) plan to turn into a tarot card deck. I chose plants as my subject matter and got to work, drawing a random card from my own personal deck each day. Whatever card I drew, I painted. It was interesting to see what cards appeared throughout the project, which spanned two years. It seemed like the cards were shown to me in moments when I needed them most.
Each piece was created using acryla gouache and accented with paint markers. Since these paintings may one day become a real deck, the aspect ratio of each work is that of a long rectangle, mimicking the dimensions of real tarot cards.
It was challenging and fun for me to interpret each card's meaning in relation to plants. My works, shared in progress online, caught the attention of Quarto Publishing. A collaboration was forged and in May of 2022, I released Create Your Own Tarot Cards (in collaboration with Theresa Reed), my first book that was 100% based on this project!
The goal to create a tarot deck has taken me on a rollercoaster ride of emotions and opportunities that I never could have predicted – and I am eager to see where it continues to go. Each of these 78 paintings are original works and part of a project so much bigger than I could have ever imagined. Owning one of these paintings is truly special and unique – all are one of a kind, crafted with love and help from the Universe, of course.
I hope you love the collection as much as I do. With love,
