#The100DayProject is a global art movement that challenges the artist to create something daily for 100 days. I've participated in this project for years.

This year was different because I didn't push myself to fit within the challenges of the project. Rather, I tackled the project in a way that made sense for me – and I learned an incredible lesson along the way!

As an artist with ADHD, maintaining a daily practice (for anything) has always been difficult. This year, I decided to participate in #The100DayProject at the very last minute. My project would be 100 small paintings, created with a limited color palette and using gouache.

I started strong, completing one painting a day as the project requires. Like clockwork, though, I began to slip. Soon, I was 20 paintings behind. Normally, I would feel horrible about this "flaw" and would either abandon the project or catch up while reciting negative self talk.

This time, I caught up on a few weekend days, completing anywhere from 20-50 paintings in one sitting. When you make that many paintings at once, perfectionism becomes less important. You start to make marks for fun, based in intuition. Fear dissipates. The process, while daunting, actually felt fun since I was in a hyper-focused state and really into what I was creating.

The result is 100 paintings, created roughly over 100 days, just not daily. More like batches of 25, lol. I learned a lot about myself through this series – I hope you enjoy them!
