"Something New" is a 2024 print reproduction of an original mixed media painting by Ponnopozz (Adrianne Hawthorne) and was released with her Chromatic Layers series.
Chromatic Layers is a body of work that focuses on identity, specifically my struggle to live with and accept having ADHD.
The process of being an artist is much harder than it looks and the struggle (for me) is mostly internal. I hadn't painted much at all in 2022 and 2023 and finally decided to rent out a small art studio so I could focus and create uninterrupted.
I started going to the studio weekly in January 2024. I had no idea what my next series would look like so I started experimenting through small sketches. Eventually, I started this piece and it took on a life of it's own as I added tracing paper, collage elements, pastel and pencil to the painted surface. "Something New" was the first piece of the Chromatic Layers work and laid the groundwork for all the pieces that came after it.
